Dr. Sheryl Recinos is a Family Medicine physician who primarily works as a hospitalist. She is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Family Medicine Clerkship Director for a medical school in Los Angeles. When she isn’t working as a physician, she is advocating for young people. As a former homeless youth who experienced significant childhood trauma, her life goal is to end youth homelessness. She is on the board of directors for My Friend’s Place, a drop-in youth program in Hollywood, CA, where she received services as a teen. She is also the author of numerous books, including her award-winning memoir Hindsight: Coming of Age on the Streets of Hollywood and her children’s picture book YIMBY: Yes! In My Back Yard! about community support and ending homelessness. She is proudest of her role as mother to her 3 adult children, all of whom never had to endure the systems that Dr. Recinos encountered as a teen.
