If you are a physician, you have no doubt seen various websites such as Doximity, Healthgrades, and WebMD make a profile of you.

A lot of healthcare systems have been taking control of docs google profiles, and then won’t give them up when a doc changes jobs! You can tell its a hospital controlled google profile when the owner comments to the reviews are something like:
“Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us!”

"Why should I become a member of SoMeDocs if I already have my own space online?"
It can be incredibly difficult to get control of that account once the hospital has it, because google will send a mailer to their address to confirm change of ownership! You need to beat them to it, or wrest it from them while you are still employed.
Your future self will thank you for doing it!
