I’ve had the habit of hugging trees for most of my life.

I suppose it may seem like an unusual activity, but there are many health benefits of tree hugging and hanging out in nature.

 

Here are the top surprising benefits of tree hugging you need to know:

 

  1. It reduces stress and anxiety

Spending time in nature has been shown to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol and reduce symptoms of anxiety.

The earth and trees emit negative ions that have been shown to have a big impact on our perception of stress.

Trees carry a calming energy that can help us feel more centered and grounded.

 

 

  1. It improves physical health

Research has shown that spending time in nature can lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and boost the immune system.

Hugging trees can also have a similar effect on physical health.

Did you know this cool fact? Trees emit chemicals called Phytoncides – these are compounds that can strengthen our immune system and improve overall health.

More specifically, these amazing Phytoncides have been shown to increase the number of NK or Natural Killer Cells – the type of white blood cells that guard against cancer and viruses.

Hugging trees can help us develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the important role that trees play in sustaining life on earth. A friend of mine said these wise words…”when you look at the entire universe, trees are even more rare than diamonds.” That’s an amazing perspective on the precious nature of the trees that surround us. This increased awareness can inspire us to take action to protect and preserve the environment.
