The transition from medical school to residency training is a challenging and transformative experience; life as a resident physician is drastically different to what most experience during their clinical rotations in medical school. About the Author

Daniel received an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Alabama followed by completing his Doctor of Medicine training at the University of Alabama School of Medicine through a Navy scholarship. Following medical school he completed a surgical internship at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, prior to a course of training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida, where he was designated a naval flight surgeon. He completed a two-year flight surgery tour deployed with Carrier Air Wing Eleven aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz as well as with Carrier Air Wing Fourteen, aboard USS Ronald Reagan. He completed surgical training at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia and then embarked upon a two-year tour as a surgeon at the Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan, serving as the Department Head and Officer-in-Charge of an expeditionary surgical team in support of Naval Special Operations. He was then deployed to Afghanistan to serve as a forward trauma surgeon in support of ongoing coalition operations. He completed his military service at the Naval Hospital Pensacola after 12 years of service and is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of South Alabama.
