Tastes of Bali: Mangosteen [VIDEO]

Lessons learned: A SAFER way to open mangosteen without a knife: squeeze it!

Once opened, enjoy the sweet+tart+juicy+pulpy wedges full of fiber and antioxidants. It’s also relatively low carb for those who monitor their macronutrients.

The queen of fruit is difficult to find in the United States for several reasons:

  • its narrow climate requirement
  • its years-long time from tree to flowering fruit stage
  • irradiation requirements to prevent fruit fly infestation (which many report affects the flavor)…

.. all of which add to the cost of importing overseas

Have you had mangosteen?

How do you open it and how would you describe its taste?
