Why Do We Continue to Support a System That Abuses Us?

Daniel Paull MD thinks it's mind boggling that someone who is abused by a system so badly, will also be the first person to defend that same system.

It’s mind boggling that someone who is abused by a system so badly, will also be the first person to defend that same system. Specifically, I’m talking about US physicians and our US healthcare system.

The days of small practices and physician autonomy have but all disappeared.

What we have now is giant corporate medicine, in which the systems themselves prosper, and the losers are the patients and physicians.

Physicians have become a commodity, and their related “productivities” closely monitored.

Productivity is one thing if you are machining on an assembly line, but it is another if you are providing care to patients. One could easily see how you could have a very productive doctor who at the same time doesn’t provide great care.

The most viable solution is to create a new system, away from the corporate players (health systems and insurance companies).

Doctor Side Ventures

Doctors today are doing SO MANY things on the side. Join an exclusive Facebook community (for medical docs, dentists, podiatrists) to discuss everything from publishing, to real estate, to ways we build wealth or satisfy our extracurricular needs (& stay happy).

This has been already happening with direct primary care, and now direct specialty care. Slowly and organically, a true grassroots movement.

Strangely, or maybe not so strangely, the first people to criticize direct care are physicians themselves! Some will tell you that it will never work, while it already is working. It’s like saying that a train will never be able to pull a certain load, as it is passing you by pulling that load.
