Swap TedX with a Quicker Connection Solution

Dana Corriel, MD explains why the concept of TedX is somewhat antiquated & we must embrace more effective ways of communicating our expertise.

March 18, 2024

TedX conferences are great. But here’s my thing: I don’t fully understand healthcare professionals’ infatuation with them.

Hear me out: we not only need to try out for these slots, but then also need to memorize our lectures in order to feel like we’ve adequately delivered them. We then need to take time off of work, and fly out to the place where they’re held. That means time away from work, time away from family, and missed opportunities. Without pay.

Is it worth all of that?

I’m not so sure (and kudos to those of you who have done it!).

I’m hoping to turn this concept on its head by achieving similar results MORE EASILY.

Here’s the crux of my plan: feature real experts, in health and healthcare, delivering lectures virtually!

It’s:

  • quicker to build.
  • easier to deliver.
  • much less stressful on the speaker.
  • more accessible to the public, and faster to find, when you’re using SoMeDocs especially!
  • bottom line: little commitment & overhead.

Here are things I considered when arriving at this conclusion.

Healthcare professionals are busy. Their time is precious. So are their brains!

They might be busy – today they’re stretched out MORE THAN EVER – but at the same time, we have so much to learn from them. Nothing can be quite as valuable as sharing the knowledge and experience of the real doctors of today.

But how do we do that MORE EFFECTIVELY?

Using the tools that we have already built out for us today, that’s how.

For example, an On-Demand section on a site like SoMeDocs, where the public can quickly find lectures by our members – folks that have already earned a medical degree!

Also, through our conferences, where you can get a more real-time feel, that replicates the in-person experience (complete with networking and fun). Better yet, these are accessible long after the live event is over, as you can access and soak up the lectures for a time after!

Bottom line: we can connect much more quickly and readily, using the technology at our fingertips today.

The public at large should be able to find us – the experts in health – much more quickly, and connect with our work.

They can listen to what we have to say, and learn from us more directly.

No more spending hours memorizing our lines or getting fancy. Let’s just exchange meaningful information, now.
