Prof. Stefano A. Bini, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthritis and joint replacement. He serves as the Maria Manetti Shrem Endowed Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. At UCSF, he leads innovation at the intersection of medicine and technology through his lab (Computational Orthopedics and Surgical Innovation – COSI).
Active in professional associations and academia, he has served as Chair of several committees for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is committed to teaching (and learning from) residents and colleagues and has received several related awards, including the James O. Johnston Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Research, Leadership and Resident Training; the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program Teaching Award; the national Kaiser Permanente James Vohs Award for Quality for his work establishing the Kaiser Permanente Total Joint Replacement Registry; and The Permanente Medical Group Award for Outstanding Planning of Physician Education.
Dr Bini founded and chairs the Digital Orthopedics Conference San Francisco now in its 10th year, and Founded the Personalized Arthroplasty Society, an international association spanning 32 countries. Previously, he served on the board of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons for 14 years. He serves as Associate Editor for AI for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, served as the founding Associate Editor of Arthroplasty Today, and has been a reviewer for many journals. Dr Bini . Having published over 100 papers and presented his research at over 200 events internationally, Dr Bini is a frequent opinion leader both in orthopedics and digital health topics.
Dr Bini is also the founder of an AI company and an elementary school, and the author of two books, one on management and the other on surgical techniques in knee surgery.
