Shulamit Lerner, MD is a pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist caring for children in the New York area and beyond since 2001. Following fellowship training at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New-York Presbyterian, she taught students and residents, conducted research and cared for patients for a decade as a member of Columbia University’s faculty practice. Dr. Lerner directed the Pediatric Endocrine Testing Service for 10 years, and was a clinician and participated in research in the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program. She chaired the Gender Committee, coordinating education and a team of specialists in supporting families and children with disorders of sexual development and gender differences.
In 2015, Dr. Lerner transitioned from the Columbia faculty practice to a solo private practice in Riverdale. She enthusiastically provides care that incorporates a holistic philosophy with the latest research in pediatric endocrinology.
In 2021, Dr. Lerner founded Endocrine Explained, to provide patient-specific teaching regarding the endocrine conditions parents are concerned about, or have ongoing questions regarding diagnoses after consultation with local doctors or pediatric endocrinologists. For both patients and their physicians, she started writing a free newsletter and blog – Endocrine Explained: The Science Behind the Symptoms – practical information for doctors and parents, those curious about the answers to general endocrine questions and nutrients.
Dr. Lerner is committed to thoroughly educating parents who are seeking out a new way to have an old-fashioned, interactive conversation about their children’s endocrine diagnoses. As a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist, she provides clear and comprehensive information to empower parents to choose appropriate care to optimize their child’s health.
