Here’s my take:
Where all things go, in digital business building, there’s no right or wrong answer. There’s just weighing the option based on your own specifics and goals.
It’s important to consider, 1st & foremost, WHY you need an app.
Is this crucial to your business? Does the amount of work you need to put INTO building this yield an acceptable – even better: a favorable! – ROI (return on your time and effort investment)?
Consider all of the already-existing communities in which you can:
1) make connections in others’ spaces (FB groups, LinkedIn, etc)
2) lead in your own space WITHIN an existing space (Slack, Clubhouse, other community-building apps, etc)
3) showcase your expertise (your own website, SoMeDocs as a billboard to your own website, etc)
If it’s a tool you want to build in order to OWN your space, and community, and you have the resources to push this, then that’s more of a reason to go for this.
Otherwise, I think it realistically takes a ton of investment, with little return, for an individual. Again, there are exceptions to this rule.
There’s a lot more I can say on this, and explain, where it comes to digital creation, and ROI for your time.
