Dr. Bishai completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan, then advanced his training with an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Plancher Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in New York City. He also trained at the Steadman Philippon Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Outside the clinic, he writes, speaks at national and international meetings, and teaches other surgeons. He serves as a master instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine and regularly trains surgeons in both open and arthroscopic techniques. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and in Sports Medicine, and he has taught surgeons on five continents.

His work has been recognized by Hour Detroit Magazine, which named him to its Top Docs lists in 2015 to 2016, 2019 to 2020, and 2023 to 2025. He was named as a 2025 National Leading Doctor in Sports Medicine by Newsweek. He is a fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Bishai holds academic appointments as the Associate Professor at Michigan State University, Assistant Professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, and Assistant Professor at Wayne State University College of Medicine. He has taught at the Detroit Medical Center Sports Medicine Fellowship and serves as adjunct clinical faculty for the University of Dayton Physician Assistant Program. He previously led the McLaren Macomb Athletic Medicine Institute and is an independent provider for the National Football League.

He is an active leader in his field as chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Orthopaedic Video Theater Committee. He is a past president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics Sports Section and the Detroit Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, and co-chair of the Sports Medicine Certificate of Added Qualification committee for the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics.
