Seriously Disturbed By What Has Become of Physician Online Communities

IN THIS ARTICLE: With love, a seriously disturbed member of our physician community, coming at you all with a concern.

I am so deeply concerned with the state of affairs of medical collegiality.

I was excited to meet new people online when I joined the online space about a year ago. I looked for a place that was open to business networking.

But I’ve been so turned off by this space, to be honest.

To start things off, everyone is selling to everyone else.

The minute you ask a question, everyone comes at you with a sale. You’re practically bracing yourself for impact every time you interact.

Second, the admins of groups are not forthright about their pushing products and services on us.

How does admin know, for example, that an investment opportunity is the right one for me?

Have they met my family?

Know our income potential and prospects?

Have any idea what kind of spenders we are?

It honestly seems like most of these spaces are run for money.

It’s such a turn off.

Doctors are supposed to support one another.

Be uplifting.

Not make money off of one another.

I’m seriously disturbed and want to know if others feel the same way that I do, and if there’s any plans to monitor these, expose them for what they are, or advocate for change.

I understand needing to make money to support a business, but let’s be real here and call a spade a spade.
