Dr. Pramita Kuruvilla is an Associate Professor of Palliative Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She earned her medical degree at Yale University and worked for many years as an ICU physician and Bioethics Chair at UCSF-affiliated Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. She completed a leadership fellowship through America’s Essentials Hospitals and a clinical fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at UCSF. She is board-certified in Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and she has earned her Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified Credential. Dr. Kuruvilla also volunteered with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in peri-civil war Côte d’Ivoire and currently serves on the MSF-USA DEI Council. Dr. Kuruvilla’s academic interests include Serious Illness Communication, Medical Education, Bioethics, Global Health, Leadership Development, Narrative Medicine, and Clinician Wellbeing.

Additionally, Dr. Kuruvilla is Founder and CEO of SoulFoodMD, a life+career coaching business which helps clients identify the aspects of life that “feed the soul”. As a writer, she has published perspective pieces in JAMA Internal Medicine and KevinMD raising awareness of ethics and equity issues in healthcare.
