ABOUT THIS LECTURE

Target Audience:

This talk is for physicians who went into medicine to help patients, not to build a following. It is for the doctor who has watched misinformation spread unchecked online, who has had patients arrive in the exam room convinced by a podcast, a YouTube video, or a wellness influencer, and who wonders: should I be doing something about this? Especially relevant for clinicians in high-misinformation specialties: pulmonology, oncology, critical care, cardiology, primary care, and any field where patients are using Ai or Google before they ever call your office.

Learning Objectives:

(shaped by what physicians are actually debating on Reddit, in JAMA, and at the AMA):

• Understand the scale of the trust crisis: physician trust dropped from 70% in 2020 to 40% in 2024,  and why podcasting is one of the few tools that rebuilds it at scale, one authentic voice at a time

• Confront the gatekeeper problem: a paper in JAMA takes 2 years to reach a patient. A podcast reaches them tonight on their commute. Explore how physician podcasters are bypassing journal editors, PR teams, and hospital communications to speak directly, and why that matters ethically and clinically

• Examine the misinformation vacuum: the AMA, NIH, and JAMA Cardiology have all documented that when physician voices are absent online, that space is filled by wellness influencers, anti-vax podcasters, and Joe Rogan guests, and how one ICU physician’s experience proves the counterstrategy works

• Get honest about the time cost: research shows podcasting takes 8-25 hours per episode without AI tools, and physician podcasters specifically stall in a “quiet plateau” phase between episodes 20-75, this session gives you the AI-assisted workflow that brings that to under 2 hours

• Weigh the real pros and cons, including reputational risk, the “med-influencer” stigma among colleagues, medicolegal considerations, and how to build a show that positions you as a serious clinician, not a content creator

• Leave with one concrete action: your episode one concept, your target patient listener, and the AI tool stack that makes it sustainable alongside a full clinical schedule
