“I don’t care, my insurance is paying for it”.
People everywhere say this all the time, completely ignorant of who is actually paying for their medical care.
No, you are paying for it, you just don’t realize that you are.
In employer sponsored health plans, you pay some of the premium, and your company pays some of the premium.
This allows you to use the plan, meaning that you have paid for the plan.
So even if you never go to the doctor, you are still paying.
Forget all the deductibles, co insurance, co pays etc.
At the end of the day, a large chunk of money is coming out from your employer and from you to the insurance company.
Your employer doesn’t have an unlimited pot of money.
If that money is going to insurance companies for high premiums, it means that it can’t go other places.
A raise for you, bonus, office supplies, etc.
You are actually getting a raise every year, even if you don’t think that you are.
Instead of the money going to you, it is going to pay for your insurance premiums which sometimes increase by double digits year after year.
Wouldn’t you rather have the raise than the money going to some monster health insurance company?
