Dr. Matthew Mintz is a physician-author who is passionate about medical education, particularly educating people on ways of treating pain and depression. He hopes to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health by providing accessible, professional advice and destigmatizing the conversation around medical marijuana. In his book, he aims to provide a trusted resource for those navigating the complexities of medical cannabis.
Dr. Mintz says that he wrote Medical Marijuana & CBD: A Physician’s Guide for Patients, to fill individuals’ knowledge gap about the benefits and instructions of how to properly use medical marijuana. According to Dr. Mintz, “Most patients who are certified for medical cannabis get their information from the folks who work at the dispensaries called ‘budtenders.'” He says that oftentimes, this can cause great variability.
In fact, the inspiration for the book came from Dr. Mintz’s observations of patients struggling to find reliable, practical advice on medical cannabis. He noted that despite the abundance of online information, essential questions—like how to use cannabis safely without smoking or experiencing psychoactive effects—remained unanswered.
SoMeDocs is pleased to announce a virtual conference focusing on writing as a healthcare professional. Topics range from Book Publishing — Getting Started, to Writing Fiction: The Secret Sauce that Keeps Readers Turning Your Pages, and more.
Dr. Mintz’s book serves as a comprehensive, evidence-based guide for patients navigating the complexities of medical cannabis. The book’s standout feature is its practical, patient-focused approach written by a physician. Included is his advice for individuals who are new to cannabis or are apprehensive about its use. He mentions that the final section of the book provides disease-specific guidance, covering conditions such as migraines, nausea, cancer, and more.
As Dr. Mintz explained, “Anyone who is considering using medical cannabis to treat a condition” can benefit from this resource.
Ultimately, Dr. Mintz hopes that his book will encourage both patients and physicians to approach cannabis as a viable therapeutic tool. He states, “Medical cannabis has so many benefits and so few side effects that it should be seriously considered as a valuable treatment for a variety of conditions.”
