I love the excerpt to to a Yale School of Medicine article, published on their site in February 3, 2023.

It goes like this:

“One hundred and fifty men bet she couldn’t survive medical school. Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell got the last laugh.”

It seemed more truth than fiction that Elizabeth Blackwell pushed through to become the first female doctor because she wanted to prove to everyone that she could do it.

Thankfully, today, we’ve got somewhat of a more balanced representation in our medical school class, with many more interesting backgrounds and reasons to attend.

I’ve always been fascinated by humans – from their behaviors to their communication styles to their relationships.

I’ve felt drawn to other humans since I was young, possibly as a product of being an only child.

Human connection, for me, is everything. But it isn’t necessarily always easy to connect.

Connection is, for me, is key to healing. And the key to positively impact another human’s life.

“Human connection, for me, is everything. But it isn’t necessarily always easy to connect.”

So many of us want to do something important in our lives and, for me (when I was choosing medicine), there seemed to be no better profession to achieve impact than to heal within the field of healthcare

I created a video to quickly share this, and brought with me a symbolic gadget which helps to quickly show how healthcare connection affects people.

Dana Corriel, MD

“I haven’t LEFT medicine, I’m simply taking time to tackle its issues from a different angle. I’m stepping out of the traditional medicine box.”
