Target Audience: This talk is for doctors and health professionals who treat female patients.
This lecture will help demystify the vaginal area and encourage physicians and other health care providers to engage patients with questions on pelvic floor health, discomfort, and causes of recurrent UTI and vaginal pain.
Learning Objectives:
- Discussion of vaginal mucosa changes with hormone shifts
- Physical exam of clitoris, labia and introitus to learn how vaginal symptoms of menopause might appear on exam, symptoms experienced by patients and what can be done to improve health, and prevent infections, tears and pain.
- Review cost analysis of topical preparations estradiol, DHEA (intrarosa).
I admit I was undertrained in women’s health and perimenopause /menopausal changes. While there are a myriad of places to start, topical estrogen is easy to use, safe and highly effective at helping to restore the pelvic floor. This simple treatment can be life changing, relationship benefitting and save a life by preventing drug resistant UTI.
