Target Audience:
This lecture is for anyone in healthcare who wants to write a nonfiction book, whether memoir or narrative or prescriptive nonfiction.
Learning Objectives:
In this lecture you will learn to:
- Narrow the topic of your book to its essence by “reading the room” i.e. understanding what is already out there on the subject and articulating what your book adds to the conversation or what knowledge gap it fills.
- Nail down your audience: Who is your ideal reader? What question or problem do they have? How will your book answer or solve that for them?
- Decide on what structure best suits the goals of your book.
- Navigate the reams of research you will need to absorb to back up or develop your ideas.
- Articulate the transformation your reader will make during the reading of your book.
- Craft a tagline, jacket copy, and outline or annotated TOC to guide your thinking, keep you on track, and act as a blueprint for the writing of your book.
