Here's the deal:

This course was born out of a need to bridge a gap between inadequate nutrition education in medical school and the desire of many practicing doctors to give good nutrition advice. For physicians and the public alike, nutrition information can be confusing and conflicting, and often comes in a one-size-fits-all format. It was designed by a Registered Dietitian turned OB/GYN and Culinary Medicine specialist. She has taken the methods of nutrition assessment and counseling she honed as a dietitian and formatted them to fit the context of a busy physician visit.

This course will review the evidence behind common sense nutrition advice and highlight effective counseling methods to give you, the physician, the confidence to provide personalized nutrition recommendations.

What You'll Gain By Enrolling:

  • Learn how to screen and assess patients for unhealthy eating behaviors and the techniques to help them change

  • Review digestion and metabolism of key macronutrients to understand the rationale behind different popular diets

  • Learn about the impact of inflammation on health and disease and how diet can help

  • Watch cooking demonstrations of healthy delicious recipes to try at home or teach your patients

What makes this instructor EXTRA qualified?

Dr. Faris started her healthcare career as a Registered Dietitian. A desire to make a greater impact led her to medical school. When she entered medical school she realized that there was nothing in her school’s curriculum on how to talk to patients about nutrition, and she volunteered to teach a class. Throughout her training she gave lectures to medical students and residents on how to screen patients for poor eating habits and how to effectively counsel for behavior change. As she grew her busy OB/GYN practice she honed her techniques to successfully help patients make healthier food choices within the context of a traditional office visit. She knows the challenges physicians face when trying to provide good patient care in today’s health care environment. She’s here to share her methods with you.

Dr. Faris’ two nutrition degrees and Culinary Medicine certification gives her the expertise to teach nutrition at a high level, so that you, the learner, can make your own decisions about what diet is right for your patient.
