Dr. Edwin Leap is an emergency physician, and has spent his career practicing in rural Appalachia. He graduated from the West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at Methodist Hospital of Indiana. He has been in practice 29 years since completing residency.
He served as a flight surgeon with the WV and Indiana Air National Guard and with the United States Air Force Reserve.
He is also a columnist and since 1995 has written for the Greenville News, Emergency Medicine News, MedPage Today, the Atlantic, Politico, the Huffington Post blog and numerous other outlets. His Emergency Medicine News column won several awards from the American Society of Healthcare Publications Editors.
He is particularly interested in the plight of rural hospitals and the growing disparity between urban and rural care. Dr. Leap is married to his college girlfriend, Jan. They have four adult children.
