REFLECT…
One of the definitions of REFLECT means to “think deeply or carefully about.”
I have been reflecting on many aspects of my life, past and present. My mindfulness practice is inviting me to stay in the now…REFLECT on what is arising in this moment…which is at times difficult…yes, even for a holistic psychiatrist and mindfulness meditation teacher and mentor like me!
This has been a deep practice as I REFLECT on my professional and personal life thus far; on choices made, choices not made; path taken, path not taken; and the reasons why. There are many regrets, remorse for words said, actions made, and the impact I wish I had not caused.
And I am also allowing myself to REFLECT on all the words that have been said, actions taken, and the positive impact these have had in changing the lives of so many individuals for the better.

Thich Nhat Hahn says, “there is the mud, and there is the lotus that grows out of the mud. We need the mud in order to make the lotus.”
I know when there is mud, it’s hard to believe a lotus can grow from the mud. It’s difficult not to judge ourselves unkindly for the mud we contributed to.
As we REFLECT on the mud and the lotus, I invite you to…
Take a breath…and another…and another…
Take a breath of kindness towards yourself…
Take a breath of compassion towards yourself…
Take a deep breath of forgiveness towards yourself…
And allow yourself to REFLECT on your own inner goodness…REFLECT on the light that shines within you.
We all make mistakes. Some we’re not proud of, some we wish we could erase and start over.
I’m there with you…
As we REFLECT on the mud and the lotus, I invite you to… Take a breath…and another…and another… Take a breath of kindness towards yourself…

The Buddha taught about the “eight worldly winds” which are pleasure and pain, gain and loss, praise and blame, fame and disrepute. These are constantly arising and passing away and are beyond our control…a practice I know well!
It is so easy to want and cling to pleasure, gain, praise, fame. And when we encounter pain, loss, blame, disrepute, we suffer. We want to push it away…we want to resist…we wonder what we have done wrong…why is this happening to us…and we cause ourselves even more suffering.
May we REFLECT on this for a moment…and breathe.
The practice of REFLECT allows me to connect deeply with my heart, body, mind, and spirit…to notice where I am now, where I have been, and where I envision going.
These “eight worldly winds” are my teachers…They guide me to accept myself in this moment and what is arising without judgment…and REFLECT on it all.

I want to teach and share from all my experiences…the joys and sorrows, gain and loss…As I look into the mirror of my soul and my heart space, I see my own REFLECTION…
And who I see I am now embracing and accepting with kindness and compassion, without judgment.
For in this kind REFLECTION, I see the lotus bloom within…the regrets, pain, challenges, mistakes are the guidepost on the journey, braving new paths, allowing me to continue to practice acts of loving kindness, compassion, forgiveness – to follow my compass in the direction of my own north star, a path that allows me to liberate my heart, mind, body, and soul free from suffering.
I am seeing a beautiful lotus beginning to bloom…in you, in me, in all of us. May we walk together on this journey, hand in hand, seeing ourselves in each other and our own REFLECTION.
