I am a pediatrician, published author, speaker, and narrative medicine facilitator. My essays have been published in the Washington Post, the New York Times, JAMA, Poets & Writers, and many other venues. I am the writer-in-residence at a large urban family medicine residency program where I lead doctors in narrative medicine workshops. In my newest book, Writing Through Burnout: How to Thrive While Working in Healthcare, I advocate for a narrative approach to physician burnout and prescribe a 30-day journaling journey to re-discover the meaning in our work and locate the joy in our jobs again.
