He fled Earth to save his life, but this planet may destroy his mind.
Russell Vaderman thought he could finally breathe easy. Meraki seemed the perfect refuge for him and his fellow fugitives, far beyond the reach of Earth’s brutal despots and unrelenting seismic convulsions. But when a child is kidnapped and another colonist slays a native with no provocation, the brilliant psychic leader is desperate to avoid battle with 2 alien species.
Engaging with the Meraki is dangerous for other reasons as well and Russell is ready to panic when bizarre and permanent mutations begin emerging in the colonists.
But this planet hides an even more sinister evil, one feared even by the Meraki: The mammoth energy force that enters through the mountain wormhole. A pitiless being of pure energy and unparalleled power that preys on their minds.
Russell knows he is risking his soul and everything that makes him who he is when he goes to face it. Can he unravel its mystery and keep this behemoth from consuming them all?
The Meraki Effect is a space opera colonization science fiction, and while it follows sequentially from Beyond the Pillars of Salt, it can also be read as a standalone novel.
If you enjoy a hint of metaphysics in your sci-fi and your heart is touched when an ordinary cat becomes the hero of a story, you’ll love Debra Blaine’s page-turning tale.
