“Hope Shines Through” is a collection of my creative works, each reflecting different aspects of my life and thoughts. In the poem, “Hope Shines,” I describe a moment of lying on the grass, looking up at the sun through tree branches. This simple act leads me to ponder the sun’s role as a life-giving force and a symbol of hope, emphasizing how it brings renewal and clarity each day, helping us move past our problems.
“The Waiting Room” is based on a sketch a patient gave me after waiting for hours to see me. This piece highlights the struggles faced by those with limited financial resources in accessing healthcare and the frustration of long waits. Despite these challenges, the patient’s act of creating a drawing, even in anger, shows resilience, and I deeply appreciate their understanding and patience.
In “A.D.D.,” I share my personal experience with Attention Deficit Disorder. I talk about how my varied interests take me in many directions at once, leading to a short attention span and a perception of inattentiveness. Despite these challenges, I recognize my creativity and productivity, even if it sometimes makes me seem unfocused.
“Latina Tinker-bell” reimagines the iconic Disney character as Puerto Rican, challenging the notion that dark skin lacks allure. By making Tinker-bell Latina, I emphasize the beauty and value of diverse skin tones, advocating for recognition and appreciation of inner beauty regardless of skin color.
Through these pieces, I explore themes of hope, resilience, diversity, and the complexities of human experiences, sharing my personal insights and creative expressions.
